Marathi is spoken by over 95 million people, making it the third most spoken language in India. Written in the Devanagari script, Marathi is the official language of Maharashtra — the state of Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, and Nagpur. Arabi Keyboard's free Marathi keyboard (arabikeyboard.com/marathi/) lets you type Marathi from any browser — no installation, no app, no language settings to change.
The Roman mode is the fastest way to type Marathi online. Type English phonetics and press Space to convert: namaskar → नमस्कार, dhanyawad → धन्यवाद, Maharashtra → महाराष्ट्र. All common digraphs are supported: kh=ख, gh=घ, ch=च, sh=श, dh=ध, bh=भ — and uniquely for Marathi, capital L converts to ळ.
The ळ (ḷa) is one of the most distinctive sounds in Marathi — it appears in hundreds of everyday words: kaLa → काळ (black/time), baLa → बाळ (child), divaLi → दिवाळी (Diwali), vaLaN → वळण (turn). Hindi keyboards do not include ळ as a main key — Arabi Keyboard's Marathi keyboard puts it right in the Special Characters panel and accessible via Roman mode (capital L).
The Matras panel provides all Devanagari vowel diacritics: ा (aa), ि (i), ी (ii), ु (u), ू (uu), े (e), ै (ai), ो (o), ौ (au), plus ं (anusvara), ः (visarga), ् (halant), ँ (chandrabindu), and the Marathi-specific ॅ and ॉ for English loanwords like हॅट and बॉल.
This Marathi keyboard is widely used by the Marathi diaspora in the United States, United Kingdom, UAE, and Australia — Marathi-speaking professionals, students, and families who use English-language devices but want to write Marathi for family messages, community groups, and social media. Also popular with students, writers, journalists, and Marathi content creators.
Beyond the keyboard, this tool includes a Marathi Emoji Hub with Maharashtra-themed combos (Ganapati 🙏, Diwali 🪔, Jai Maharashtra 🇮🇳), voice typing in Marathi, word suggestions, dark mode, font size control, and .txt download. Text is auto-saved in the browser so you never lose your work. All features are completely free.
Millions of Marathi speakers who live outside Maharashtra or use English-language phones use this keyboard daily. The Maharashtra diaspora in the USA, UK, UAE, Australia, and Singapore use it for WhatsApp messages, Instagram captions, and community communications. Marathi students and language learners use it to practice writing. Authors, journalists, and bloggers writing Marathi content use it for quick copy-paste into their CMS. Teachers making Marathi educational materials, and second-generation youth reconnecting with their mother tongue.
Marathi uses the Devanagari script — the same script as Hindi, Sanskrit, and Nepali. It has 16 vowels (अ आ इ ई उ ऊ ए ऐ ओ औ ऍ ऑ अं अः) and 36 consonants including the uniquely Marathi ळ (retroflex lateral) and ऱ (eyelash ra). Unlike Hindi, Marathi uses ळ very frequently in everyday vocabulary. The script reads left to right and uses a horizontal line (शिरोरेषा) connecting letters. All Marathi Devanagari is in the Unicode standard (U+0900–U+097F) and displays correctly on all modern devices.
Google Translate converts between languages — it does not let you type original Marathi. Arabi Keyboard lets you compose your own Marathi text and copy it to any app. No translation needed: if you speak Marathi, just type it. Roman mode makes it even faster — type phonetically in English and get Devanagari instantly. Copy, paste, done. The two tools serve different purposes: use Google Translate to understand Marathi text you've received; use this keyboard to write Marathi yourself.
All text produced by Arabi Keyboard uses standard Unicode Devanagari (U+0900–U+097F). This means your Marathi text displays correctly on every modern device — iPhone, Android, Windows, macOS, Linux — without any special font installation. You can paste it into WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter/X, Gmail, Word, Google Docs, Notion, and any website. Marathi text is fully searchable and copy-pasteable everywhere. Whether your recipient is in Mumbai, London, or Dubai, they will see your Marathi perfectly.
Step 1 — Open the keyboard: Go to arabikeyboard.com/marathi/ in any browser on your phone or computer. No sign-up, no installation, completely free. Step 2 — Choose your input method: Click Devanagari letters directly on the virtual keyboard, OR tap the FRANCO button to activate Roman mode and type phonetically using English letters. Step 3 — Use the ळ key: In Roman mode, type capital L for the uniquely Marathi ळ sound — kaLa → काळ, baLa → बाळ, divaLi → दिवाळी. Step 4 — Add matras: Tap the मात्रा button to open the matras panel and add vowel signs (ा ि ी ु ू े ै ो ौ ँ ः ्) to consonants. Also includes Marathi-specific ॅ and ॉ for English loanwords. Step 5 — Copy and paste: Tap the blue Copy button and paste your Marathi text into any app — WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, Gmail, Google Docs, Facebook, YouTube comments.
